We’re an employer of choice because we value our teams. We have an excellent support network, great environments and most importantly quality education at heart. We were founded with the purpose of providing better educational outcomes for tāmariki and that’s what we do.
Our teaching teams enjoy the benefits of being part of the collective agreement, with top tier salaries, mentoring, coaching, generous non-contact time and leave entitlements. Our goal is to give every child an excellent start to their education and support their transition to school. We know that this starts with valuing our teachers and staff.
We employ qualified and registered kindergarten teachers, whose teaching practice reflects current theories of learning and development. Their experience reflects the diverse cultures represented in our kindergartens and centres. We are proud to deliver Te Whāriki, New Zealand's national early childhood curriculum. Our excellent organisation support team ensures the organisation operates to the highest level and is future focussed, enabling our teaching teams to focus on quality practice.
We are committed to providing ongoing professional development for our people with a focus on growing the quality of teaching practice through dedicated non-contact time, mentoring and coaching.
AKA is a true reflection of Tamaki Makaurau, with a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities and beliefs across our organisation. Our kindergartens are inclusive and welcome all tamariki and their whānau. We acknowledge the strengths and interests of each child, enhancing these through the principles of Te Whāriki and working together with whānau. We are leaders in the Incredible Years programme, supporting young children's behaviour and promoting their social, emotional, and academic competence.
Kindergarten (literally the child’s garden), is based on a philosophy of learning through play. Our learning environments really set us apart from many other ECE providers, with large, natural outdoors spaces and gardens where children can create, explore, be imaginative and expressive. We work in partnership with the Toimata Foundation, Te Mauri Tau and Auckland Council, and have 38 Enviroschools, focusing on environmental and community sustainability. Our organisational support teams are based in the CBD overlooking Myers Park and the historic home of AKA, now KiNZ Myers Park.
We are unique in that many of our staff have worked alongside generations of our families and have built long and rewarding careers with us. This really means something - we’re here for you!
